What Even is a “Spiritual Journey”?

Before my spiritual awakening, I spent years chasing what I thought would make me feel fulfilled: success, status, and the approval of others. But I’d lost touch with something essential—my true self.
Growing up, I absorbed a core belief that shaped everything: if others see your value, then you’re valuable. My life became focused on constantly doing what I thought others wanted, trying to fit the mold of what they saw as "successful" or "worthy."
Starting at age 7, I poured myself into gymnastics, a journey that continued until I graduated from college on a full scholarship. By then, I still had no real idea who I was or what I wanted. I followed advice, majored in business, and chose finance as my focus—because that’s what everyone recommended. But after college, as I worked tirelessly to prove myself as a financial advisor, it became painfully clear that none of this was making me happy. It felt like I was chasing something I could never reach.
One day, on the way to work, I broke down. “Is this all there is to life?” I thought, feeling stuck and completely disconnected. But looking back, that moment was my first step toward something different: the start of a spiritual journey back to myself.
Now, after 5 years on this path, I can finally say I know who I am and what I’m meant to do in this world—and none of it involves proving myself to anyone.
Through my work as a Spiritual Coach, I’ve found a sense of purpose, joy, and fulfillment that I never experienced while endlessly striving for others' approval. I realized that everything I was seeking—love, success, abundance—was always available to me. I just needed to stop running after it and let it come to me.
A spiritual journey isn’t about adding something to who we are; it’s about peeling back the layers of who we thought we had to be. It’s a journey to rediscover our true nature, free from the limitations, doubts, and expectations we pick up along the way.
For so long, I believed I had to become more than I already was. But the truth is, we’re all natural attractors of the good we seek—when we align with who we really are, it flows to us with ease.
When I let go of the need to prove myself and focused on embodying my true nature, everything changed. Now, I still want things like success and love, but they’re no longer the goal. My focus is on sharing light, truth, and love with others without abandoning myself. I trust that when I honor my authentic self, the universe will handle the rest (and it always does).
The essence of spirituality is in returning to yourself—uncovering the parts of you that have always been there beneath the beliefs, doubts, and past experiences. It’s not about chasing something new; it’s about remembering who you’ve always been.
If you’re feeling blocked or disconnected, know that it’s often due to the layers of beliefs we’ve taken on, like “I’m not good enough,” “I need others’ approval to have worth,” or “I don’t deserve love.” These beliefs lead us away from our true nature, making us feel we have to constantly “become” more to be worthy.
But spiritual growth is about facing these beliefs head-on so they no longer control our choices. It’s about knowing you are enough, just as you are. This doesn’t mean we stop growing or healing—it means recognizing that we were never lacking in the first place.
The journey to your true self requires radical love and acceptance for who you are right now and for who you’ve been in the past. Every step you take on this path is a step back to the abundance, love, and purpose meant for you—not because you’ve finally “earned” it, but because it was yours all along. The more you love and accept yourself, the less your decisions reflect a need for love and acceptance. This, in turn, aligns your choices with what is truly meant for you.
As you deepen your connection with yourself and your deservingness of good things, you start to realize that the universe (or a spiritual connection of your own understanding) has been guiding you toward your highest good all along.
It’s essential to remember that this journey is lifelong. There will never be a moment when you wake up and feel like you have everything "figured out." The truth is, you're not meant to have it all figured out. The real purpose is in the journey itself—the process of unbecoming everything you were taught you needed to be.
There is no one right way to live your journey. It's about embracing your path, wherever it leads, and coming back to the love and acceptance of yourself along the way. Trust that when you focus on returning to that love, everything else will fall into place.
I’m truly honored to be part of your journey as you navigate this process of self-discovery and growth, and please know that you are thoroughly loved for all that you are.
With love,
Gabrielle N.
